Riiiiiight. Gaile would threaten a player with any kind of ban for nicking her mask. You know her so well.

This isn't about a mask.

Default The missing mask..

It's not about whether the mask can be replaced. It's about the mentality behind stealing from ANY player, not just an admin.

I'm keeping a post up about it in the Party Search window wherever I go. Of course, the effectiveness of this strategy is hindered by most people's lack of interest in using or checking that window....but I'm doing what I can.

Hope things get settled without too much of a fuss, and I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

PS...RETURN THE MASK BEFORE I HAVE TO CALL OUT THE WARTHOG ARMY I'VE GOT SAVED UP IN MY INVENTORY!!

Cheers.

Yes, exactly. My main girl has a mask. I was just hoping that my European girl, of whom I'm very fond, would also have one.

I was in ID1 a minute ago and someone was claiming to have the mask, but most likely was someone just spamming. Was someone named blue power ranger or such. Most likely someone just trying to brag though Hope it turns up!

By the way, how come it is set up so you cannot give someone else a mask and they can create one from a customized one? I know of people that did not get Factions and really want a mask.

Edit: Heh... there's a big thing going on in ID1 now with people trying to find your mask. Lots of people asking around and discussing it.

I can't help but roll my eyes and pinch my nose at the level of brown nosing in this thread.

Quote:
My pleasure Gaile, I always enjoy being in your company. But I think that you are being a bit too forgiving of human nature right now. People are always out for their own benefit. The INSTANT your mask was no longer bound to you as a drop, someone picked it up, I didn't think to watch who, assuming they would give it to you (again, a misjudgment in human nature). I picked up your bags by rapidly clicking on them, I tried to get all the items for you, but some people were faster then I as on the mask. Your known around about 80-90% of the community, and many people admire you Gaile. The simple truth is, and item "autographed" by you would sell for a large amount to a big Gaile Gray fan. This person did not accidentally stand near your hat, and then rapidly click to pick it up the second it was unbound. I saw this coming, which is why I broke from the Conga line in the first place, to try and get your stuff before self centered jerks did this type of thing. I should have clicked the mask, bags are easily had by other generous players, but the mask is customized, making its "Black Market" value very high to specific buyers. Hopefully, a true Gaile Gray fan would report the seller and get you back your mask though, instead of selfishly hording it. Hope the thief turns up for you Gaile. Sorry that some people are so selfish they ruin other people's events for their own gain. Hope to see you at the 12AM finale. Cheers Gaile.
Oh my God, if I were playing a drinking game based on every time you said "Gaile", I'd have a nice buzz going right now.

If this thread was made by anyone else, well almost anyone, this would be a flamefest full of people telling them how noob they are and and how it's there own fault for not paying attention or whatever. They'd be told that there is nothing that could be done for them and to submit a support ticket at plaync and hope for the best. So Gaile, Anet's support page is located at here. I realize it's a little cumbersome to navigate, but we all have to deal with it. Chances are however that they will just refer you back to here or some other unofficial site. So sorry about your luck.

trobinson, what an appallingly unkind post. You do realize it's the weekend? That I was in the game on my own time? That the reason I didn't pick up the mask was that I was answering player questions and leading a conga, at their request? Had I been there to simply get my stuff, I'd be fine. I was distracted, and trying my best to make others happy.

Now, it's great to point at the victim and say "It's your fault," but in this case, I think you're accusations are rude, crude, and socially unacceptable, given the context.

Ok, someone did the morally wrong thing by stealing it but I can't believe you are suggesting banning them. If this was anyone else you'd have said:

Quote:
Why didn't you pick it up before the assignation wore off???
That said, I'm really sorry it went missing and I'd hope to see it returned soon.

EDIT: My post got sniped, I'd just like to clarify - I THINK IT WAS THE WRONG THING TO DO.

Gaile can easily get another one, because the event isn't over yet, so the issue is that it was the wrong thing to do.

Well, technically, you could have left a spot or two in your inventory open...

"Give me the mask back or I'm going to ban you."

Get real. Gailes obviously not gonna ban someone for picking up a mask and not returning it. No offence to Gaile here, but who's fault was it that they had a full inventory? I'm not defending the person who took it, and I'm not saying they shouldn't give it back, but think if it was someone elses mask; would you guys be trying to help, or would you say too bad for you?

The Blue Poweranger is a guildie. He is rude but harmless. (abit thick in the head imo)
Well, hope that the culprit is found.

I think his accusations are socially acceptable. They're slightly rude and crude (especially referring to the ANet support page) but the point he has is that if it was anyone but an ANet Staff Member, then we'd be flaming them.

Unfortunately, knowing the community as I do, I would have to agree with that, to a certain extent. However, the key difference here is that it's not just John Doe, it's an ArenaNet employee who spends a lot of time working with the community (though each individual member has different opinions about how well) on a regular basis. Now, if it was just an accident (I've personally ninja'd other people's drops on accident with some frantic ;+Space action when grabbing my own), then hopefully the person who wakes up with the mask will return it, rather than attempting to make a nice nest egg with the profits that could be reaped. If the taking of the mask was intentional, then it is a problem in that an item was taken by a community member from someone who dedicates a lot of her time to that community.

Sure, it's just a mask (and quite a funky one, at that), and there are plenty more where it came from, but when you take something away from someone who gives so much, it's just a new level of wrong.

Good luck with this whole fiasco, Gaile. I'm glad I don't have your job right now.

Well, you can think whatever you like, just as I can. As you say, you were playing the game on your own time, not the company's. What that means to me is that you should have been prepared to get your stuff when it drops just like everyone else. If the item stops being designated for you, then its up for grabs by anyone. Sure, it may suck that you didn't get the mask (and almost lost your 16 red bags, lol) but it happens. Everyone else knows that when the pig comes, he's giving out items, so if they want their stuff, they make space for it, they don't stand around answering questions and running around in conga lines. Your fault, just chalk it up as a loss.

So, uhh.... sorry to hear that happened. But yeah, you should've just made sure you had room in your inventory. How hard is that? I can understand the whole "too busy to..." blah, but really, just a little preparation can avoid potentially nasty situations like this. Don't be blaming the bear in the forest for tearing you up, blame yourself for carrying honey through a forest full of bears.

Now, if we could have a bear-free forest, I'm all for that.

If the person who has Gaile's hat is willing to sell it, I'll buy the damn thing just to make everyone happy.
